Description

Treat your loved ones with these delightful 3-Ingredient Flower Shortbread Cookies. Simple to prepare, they feature a buttery flavor, making them perfect for gifts!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick / 115g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1/4 cup (35g) powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour, spoon and leveled
  • your choice of gel or liquid-gel food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, powdered sugar, salt, and vanilla until combined.
  2. Add the all-purpose flour and mix until there are no dry streaks remaining.
  3. For colored petals, set aside a little less than 1/4 of the dough for the cookie centers, then incorporate food coloring into the larger portion of dough.
  4. Pinch off teaspoon-sized portions of the dough and roll into smooth balls. If the dough is too sticky, refrigerate for 30 to 60 minutes to firm up.
  5. Arrange the dough portions on a parchment-lined baking sheet to form flowers: one uncolored ball in the center and five colored balls surrounding it. Gently press them together.
  6. Chill the shaped cookies in the freezer for 10 minutes to maintain their shape. Preheat your oven to 350°F during this time.
  7. Bake the cookies in the center of the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until they are no longer shiny on top and lightly golden around the edges.
  8. Cool the cookies on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For easy shaping, ensure your butter is softened correctly before creaming.
If dough is sticky, refrigerate it to make handling easier.
Customize colors of the cookies with your favorite food coloring.
