Description

This Date Sweetened Hot Chocolate is a warm, comforting drink that offers an irresistible flavor with simple ingredients. Perfect for cozy nights and gatherings!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 Medjool Dates
  • 2¼ cups milk (dairy, almond, soy, or coconut)
  • 2 squares dark chocolate (at least 60% cocoa)
  • 2½ tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ to 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
  • a pinch of salt
  • whipped cream (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  • Pit the Medjool dates and place them in a high-speed blender with milk, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and salt.
  • Blend until smooth for a creamy consistency.
  • Pour the mixture into a pot and heat over medium heat, stirring frequently until hot but not boiling (about 5 minutes).
  • Alternatively, microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until hot.
  • Serve the hot chocolate in mugs topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cocoa or cinnamon if desired.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
Reheat gently on the stove or microwave; add a splash of milk if too thick.
For frothy hot chocolate, use an immersion blender after heating.
