- 5 Medjool Dates
- 2¼ cups milk (dairy, almond, soy, or coconut)
- 2 squares dark chocolate (at least 60% cocoa)
- 2½ tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ to 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste

- whipped cream (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Pit the Medjool dates and place them in a high-speed blender with milk, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and salt.
- Blend until smooth for a creamy consistency.
- Pour the mixture into a pot and heat over medium heat, stirring frequently until hot but not boiling (about 5 minutes).
- Alternatively, microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until hot.
- Serve the hot chocolate in mugs topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cocoa or cinnamon if desired.
Notes
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
Reheat gently on the stove or microwave; add a splash of milk if too thick.
For frothy hot chocolate, use an immersion blender after heating.
