- 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 100 degrees f)
- 1 packet yeast (active dry, instant, or quick rise- 2.25 teaspoons)
- 1 ½ teaspoons fine grain salt (preferably not iodized)
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour or bread flour, plus more for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and salt, mixing until dissolved.
- Add flour to the mixture, stirring until a sticky dough forms. Adjust consistency with more flour or water as needed.
- Cover the bowl and let it rise in a warm place for 2-3 hours until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F with the Dutch oven inside; keep it covered for an additional 20 minutes after the oven reaches temperature.
- Form the dough into a loaf shape on floured parchment paper. Flip to have the floured side up.
- Optionally, make slits on top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
- Carefully place the dough into the preheated Dutch oven and cover with the lid.
- Bake for 35 minutes at 450°F. Remove the lid and bake an additional 5-10 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
For a saltier flavor, increase fine grain salt to 2 teaspoons.
Dough can be stored in the refrigerator if not baking immediately.
Ensure proper measurements for flour for the right dough consistency.
