Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices brioche or challah bread
  • 3 large eggs
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • Butter or cooking spray for greasing
  • Maple syrup, powdered sugar, or berries for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a muffin tin.
  • Cut bread into quarters and press into muffin cups to form a shape.
  • Whisk eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt together.
  • Pour egg mixture over the bread cups, pressing down lightly to soak.
  • Bake for 22–25 minutes until golden and puffed.
  • Cool slightly, then serve warm with toppings.

Notes

Ensure eggs are at room temperature for the best custard texture.
To prevent sogginess, do not over-soak the bread.
You can prepare the bread cups and custard the night before.
