Description

These Soft Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls are a delightful treat, rich in flavor with a warm spiced filling and luscious cream cheese frosting, making them ideal for holiday breakfasts or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon active dry or instant yeast
  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter, total
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2/3 cup confectioners' sugar

Instructions

  • Combine warm milk, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, and yeast; let rise for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Mix the remaining sugar, melted butter, eggs, salt, spices, and 1 cup flour; beat for a minute.
  • Gradually add 3 more cups of flour until a soft dough forms; knead until smooth.
  • Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for about 2 hours until doubled in size.
  • Prepare the filling by mixing softened butter and molasses, then combine the spices and sugar.
  • Roll out the dough, spread the filling, and sprinkle the sugar-spice mixture; roll tightly and slice into 12 pieces.
  • Let rolls rise again for 1 hour, then bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 25-28 minutes.
  • Make the cream cheese frosting while cooling; then frost the rolls before serving.

Notes

For a dairy-free option, substitute whole milk with almond milk.
To store, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for 5 days.
These rolls can be prepared ahead and refrigerated overnight before baking.
