Description

These Sour Cream Sugar Cookies are a must-try! They offer a unique tangy flavor, soft texture, and are perfect for sharing during any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl; set aside.
  • Beat softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  • Add egg, sour cream, and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mix and beat until smooth.
  • Gently fold in the dry ingredients until just combined, forming a soft dough.
  • Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, wrapped in plastic wrap.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Roll out dough to about ¼-inch thickness and cut shapes with cookie cutters.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden; cool on wire racks.
  • Beat softened butter and powdered sugar together, adding milk to achieve a spreadable frosting consistency.
  • Frost cooled cookies and decorate as desired.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with gluten-free baking flour.
Ensure butter is softened at room temperature for easier creaming with sugar.
Chilling dough longer enhances flavors and helps maintain cookie shape.
