Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 lime
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 2 tsp Sambal Oelek
  • 5 tbsp soy sauce
  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 15 oz super-firm or extra-firm tofu
  • Vegetable oil
  • 12 green onions
  • ½ cup fresh cilantro
  • 1 tbsp toasted white sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Mix garlic, lime zest, juice, sesame oil, Sambal Oelek, soy sauce, water, and brown sugar to create the sauce.
  • Cut tofu into ½” cubes and marinate with half of the sauce for at least 20 minutes.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet and sauté marinated tofu until golden brown on all sides.
  • Simmer the remaining sauce in a saucepan for 5-10 minutes, thickening with cornstarch slurry.
  • Pour thickened sauce over the tofu and stir to coat, allowing it to caramelize slightly.
  • Serve garnish with green onions and cilantro.

Press tofu to remove excess moisture for a better texture.
Adjust sugar in the sauce based on your taste preference.
