Description

This homemade spaghetti sauce is a delightful blend of savory ground beef, aromatic spices, and rich tomatoes, making it an ideal option for a comforting quick dinner or healthy meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion diced (about 1 cup)
  • 1 pound ground beef 90/10 or 80/20
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 4 cloves garlic grated or minced
  • 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 parmesan cheese rind optional, but recommended
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high.
  2. Add ground beef and diced onion, season with salt and pepper, crumble and cook until browned, then drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, garlic, worcestershire sauce, and dried herbs, cooking for 1 minute.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce; wash the empty cans with a cup of water and pour it in.
  5. Mix in sugar and balsamic vinegar, then add parmesan cheese rind, bringing the sauce to a boil.
  6. Cover and reduce heat, simmer for 30 minutes.
  7. Stir in chopped basil before serving over noodles or cool for storage.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a mix of beef and pork.
The sauce can be refrigerated for up to 5 days or frozen for months.
Feel free to adjust seasoning to taste.
