This homemade spaghetti sauce is a delightful blend of savory ground beef, aromatic spices, and rich tomatoes, making it an ideal option for a comforting quick dinner or healthy meal.

- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion diced (about 1 cup)
- 1 pound ground beef 90/10 or 80/20
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- Black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 4 cloves garlic grated or minced
- 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
- 15 ounce can tomato sauce
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 parmesan cheese rind optional, but recommended
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high.
- Add ground beef and diced onion, season with salt and pepper, crumble and cook until browned, then drain excess grease.
- Stir in tomato paste, garlic, worcestershire sauce, and dried herbs, cooking for 1 minute.
- Add crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce; wash the empty cans with a cup of water and pour it in.
- Mix in sugar and balsamic vinegar, then add parmesan cheese rind, bringing the sauce to a boil.
- Cover and reduce heat, simmer for 30 minutes.
- Stir in chopped basil before serving over noodles or cool for storage.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use a mix of beef and pork.
The sauce can be refrigerated for up to 5 days or frozen for months.
