Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1 cup plain non-fat greek yogurt
- 1 egg plus 1 teaspoon of water; optional for toppings such as sesame seeds or poppy seeds
Instructions
- Combine the flour and Greek yogurt in a bowl using a wooden spoon.
- Once the dough forms, turn it out onto a floured surface and knead until it becomes a ball.
- Flour your hands and the surface well to handle the sticky dough, and work extra flour as needed.
- Cut the dough into four even pieces by dividing it in half and then in half again.
- Shape each piece into logs about 4 to 6 inches long and pinch ends together to form bagels.
- Place the bagels on a lined baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat.
- Prepare the egg wash by beating together the egg and one teaspoon of water, then brush it on top of each bagel before adding toppings.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 22 minutes.
- Increase the oven temperature to 450°F, then return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for an additional 3 to 4 minutes until the tops are browned.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
Notes
For a crispier bagel, consider letting them cool on a wire rack after baking.
Experiment with different toppings such as everything bagel seasoning or cheese for added flavor.
